Handicraft demonstrations at FemmeCity

PETALING JAYA: Those who enjoy making handicraft can check out demonstrations at FemmeCity, The Star’s women’s fair and exhibition.


Organised by Clove, The Star’s monthly women’s pullout, FemmeCity will be held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre from July 30 to Aug 1.

There will be workshops by members of the Arts and Crafts Guild, Kuala Lumpur and Selangor.

Highlights include stone painting by Abby Zain, jigsaw photo frame by Felicia Loh and felt craft by Norliza Samington

There will be workshops on wire art jewellery by Yati Salem, paper beading by Ling Ooi and smocking by Nirwana Tuan Sariff.

The Arts and Crafts Guild is founded in October 1993.

“We also function as a resource centre, providing information about art supplies, workshops, galleries, and art and craft techniques,” said Jane Khoo who is the Arts and Crafts Guild president.

Khoo said membership is open to anyone above 18. “The only prerequisite is the love of any form of art, be it visual or performing arts or crafts. Over the past 14 years, our members have included artists, art graduates, homemakers, self-taught artists and professionals.”

There will be talks by Clove and The Star columnists such as image consultant and Clove’s Miss Behave columnist Wendy Lee, Vasthu Sastra columnist T. Selva, Childwise columnist Ruth Liew and Fit for Life’s qi gong columnist Dr Amir Farid Isahak.

Others include feng shui expert Joey Yap, self-defence instructors Jerome Blanes and Benny Teh, belly dance instructor Nancy Bakshy, master trainer Afa Omar, health and beauty experts Dr Inderjit Kaur and Mary Gurmit, international trainer Faridah Hameed and consultant geriatrician Dr Lenny Da Costa.

Cook’s Nook columnist Amy Beh as well as French and Japanese chefs will offer cooking demonstrations.

FemmeCity’s uniqueness is its concept, which is to reflect an actual living and breathing city.

It is open from 11am to 7pm. Admission is free.
